Websighting for Woodworking

It's May 12, 2000, about 22 days before the Woodworkers Show, and I'm sitting here trying to guess how successful the show will be. Experience has shown that if you make a plan and you work the plan, some success will result. Fall back positions, Plan A, Plan B, worst-case scenarios are all part of the planning process. Included in this planning effort are the budget and the breakeven point that were the constraining features of the plan. The planning for the show by the committee went through all these motions. I know; I was a witness to it. So how successful was the show? That's a hard one to call because success is dependent upon several things. Will we make enough money to pay the bills? Well, if the vendors pay their fees, the answer is yes. Will we make a profit? Again if the vendors pay their fees? Yes. Will the vendors feel the show was a success? Well, that's the fly in the ointment. How big was the turnout of visitors? How much did they buy? So many questions, so few answers. So what is my conclusion? The show was an enormous endeavour in comparison to the past club exhibitions. Judging the success are three groups - the club, the vendors and the visitors. I am only one of 177 members, and my vote is yes. What's your vote?
