Gabe Jean opened the meeting promptly at 7:30 p.m., and we started out
with a show and tell with raised carvings and birdhouses by Jack Salerno
and fretwork by Alain Tiercy. Both were fine examples of skill and craftsmanship.
Then there was a lively discussion of new tools and a question and answer
period. Gabe kept this part of the meeting going strong, and many of the
members were interested and pleased with the discussion. Members spoke
of retailers, such as Constantine' s, Hardwood Warehouse and Suffolk Machinery,
giving discounts. We hope the members will patronize these merchants and
all the others who support the club.
The raffle was held, and Owen Brady won the Bessey clamp, Al Warner the
hold-down and Elaine Deazley the chisel. After the raffle Bob Urso spoke
of the upcoming show, and then John Gray, an employee of the Stickley
Furniture Manufacturing Co. in Syracuse, New York, gave a slide presentation
on the activities of the "Sample Shop" at Stickley's and indicated that
there is a tour of their Sample Shop given on Tuesdays throughout the
year. It starts at 10:30 a.m. John Gray's presentation was excellent and
was enjoyed by all. After this there was a question and answer session
in which many of the members participated. Jack was also with us on Saturday,
giving us a full day's seminar.
