LIWC's World Wide Woodworking

Ok, so maybe you know it as the World Wide Web, but I would like to help change the meaning of WWW. I have been working on the club's web site for quite a while now along with Larry Russo. There have been problems with site content being rather dated but that has changed.

Our site can be found at http://www.liwoodworkers.org. Along with a new look our site now has a number of new features. The first one you'll see is the calendar of events. This is in the left margin of our home page. This calendar will list events relative to our members and woodworking. Displayed you will find all of the events occurring within the next 31 days. Some events will be listed longer in advance if they truly deserve it (such as our exposition in June).

Next, notice the dovetails on the top banner. As expected "Newsletter" will bring you to our archive of newsletters. Here you will find an online version of the current and some past issues. "Club Info" will bring you to some general information about the club as well as a listing of the clubs board. Clicking on the names of our board members will allow you to send them email. "Classifieds" will bring you to an on- line copy of the classifieds section of our newsletter. "Links" contains some woodworking links. If you have others that you think would be of benefit here please suggest them (I'll tell you a good way soon).

Finally we have the "Member's Area". This is where you can find all of our Member-to-Member links. The main section of the page contains the names of all members that have created a login for themselves. When you create your login you will be asked for some information about yourself. Included is your first and last name, an email address and URL for your web page (if you have one). By filling in your email address an envelope will appear next to your name in the listing. This will allow other members to easily send you email. And of course, if you have a web page a globe with "WWW" on it shall appear next to your name so that members can visit your site. To protect all of this information you will also be asked for a site name and a password. DO NOT USE YOUR LOGIN NAME/SCREEN NAME OR PASSWORD FROM ANY OTHER ACCOUNT!! This is very important so that your personal accounts are safe. Creating your login will also allow you to submit items for approval to the calendar listing. As soon as you know of an event you think would be of interest to the club please submit it. This will give board members time to approve the events posting. Such events include woodworking shows, craft shows (especially if you are exhibiting), etc. Please do not submit the truly big shows (i.e. American Woodworkers) as someone on the board will have already submitted that show. Your login will also allow you to do other things in the future.

Saving the best for last, allow me to tell you of our forum section. The forum section contains a number of broad categories of interest. In here you can post messages for the whole world to see (or at least our little part of it). If you have a question, an answer to a question or would just like to tell everyone of a good tip, then this is the place to do it. Just remember, be respectful of others and do not post any personal information you don't want others to see (you can respond directly to a posting through email if you want to communicate personal information to the poster).

If you have any questions feel free to send me email at webmaster@liwoodworkers.org. Suggestions for the site can either be sent to that address or posted to the web site suggestions forum.

Happy surfing!
