Personal Reflections On The New Jersey Woodworkers Show

The March meeting of the LIWC will feature a presentation by member Joseph Streffezza, and the topic will be segmented turning. Joe will bring samples of his work and explain how he uses small pieces of exotic woods to create his turnings. Although turning is his medium, he will be focusing on the cutting, gluing and clamping of his work, which should interest all members regardless of their main interests. Joe has asked that members bring graph or note paper to use in copying the formulas and techniques he uses.

As usual, many of our members attended the North New Jersey Woodworkers Show in January. Most of the usual vendors were present, and some good prices were evident. Although smaller than the previous show in PA, it was also less crowded and an enjoyable day. I did not attend any seminars, although I know some members did, and the reaction was mixed. Personally, I find the seminars are conducted too close to the general show area, which makes it hard to hear and concentrate on the topic. I also felt that we will have better seminars at our own show in June, and the fact that they will be conducted in a meeting room rather than on the show floor makes them even more appealing. Actually, my main focus at this show was to talk up our show, and I feel that the interest is strong, with several new vendors indicating they will attend. We still need some additional vendors, but everything seems to be coming together well. The show is well-balanced and will have a lot to offer everyone. Remember to save your tool purchasing dollars for June and support our vendors. Their success is the key to a great show, this year and in the future.
