Gabe Jaen called the meeting to order at 7:30, his first official act
as the new President of the Club. In his remarks, Gabe paid tribute to
the many contributions made by Charlie Felsen during his tenure as President.
Gabe outlined his platform, emphasizing increased involvement in club
activities by all members. Joe Pascucci gave the Treasurer's report followed
by a report on membership by Frank Gaizo and an update by Bob Urso on
the activities of the Program Committee. Raffle prizes were won by Joe
Pascucci, Vinnie de Martino and an unidentified member.
The main program of the evening was the Show-and-Tell by various members.
charlie James showed his handmade walnut plane and gave a demonstration
of cutting dovetails by hand. Jim Clancy showed his quick release chuck
for the router, and richard Weil covered toy safety in regard to choking
hazards for children. Theo Sotiriou gave a demonstration on making raised
panel doors and a jig for cutting any angle. Steve Costello showed his
etching and got no offers.
Charlie Morehouse gave a demonstration on wood finishing, including taking
out water and burn marks. He also covered repairing gouge marks on tabletops.
Frank Allaire demonstrated a jig for making toy wheels exactly the same
size (sanded and smooth) from 1.5 inches to 10 inches. Graham Kelly demonstrated
jigs and techniques for thickness planers, reducing snipe and eliminating
cupping. Joseph Streffezza demonstrated the art of marquetry, using various
woods and techniques. He included a wide variety of patterns and styles.
Joe Pascucci demonstrated the scroll saw and gave hands-on assistance
to other members.
Jessica Felsen and Joshua Rakower gave a joint demonstration of spindle
turning on a mini-lathe. these were our youngest demonstrators and future
members of the club.
