Topic: Fein verses Festool Posted: 09 March 2010 at 9:26pm |
I'm in the market for a new vacuum for my shop. Do any of you have an opinion about the Fein Turbo II verses the Festool CT22. They both seem to be very good vacuums. Also, where should I buy it?

I went for the Festool because its form factor. The round stuff takes
lots of space because of its egg shape. Also, compare their ways to
change the bags and price of the supplies. The Fein can be really cute though! I have it for 2 years. I clean the shop with a shopvac. But I suck dust and connect my tools to the Festool. I stopped usinf the Delta Dust Collector. the Festool is better! ( Unitl I can plunge for a Oneida or a Clearview system )

Rich, I've had both. I sold the Fein because when I had it, it didn't have the self contained HEPA filter, which I needed for my wife. It's a bit quieter than the Festool, which I currently have. Both work great, and you can't go wrong with either. What the Festool offers is the ability to clip their systainers on top of the vac. So if you have, or are planning to have more Festool tools, then go with the Fes.
It's sort of the who is better Mantle or Mays argument (and no guys, the Duke wasn't as good, so let's not get into that one).

Hi Guys,
I was leaning towards the Fein based on what I read on the net. The new version has some nice improvements over the older model. The Fien can be fitted with the Festool hose to use the Festool sytsem. Then I saw this device from Onieda that fits on top of the Festool vacuum. I also stopped at Ace Tool today to see if as a club member I could get a better price on the Festool 22ct but they said no. So, I may order it online and get free shipping.

Rich, I have had a Fein II for 6 years and am very satisfied with it. I added a filter and got rid of the cloth bag. I use ShopVac bags that are much less expensive than the Fein bags.

Rich, Festool doesn't give discounts to ANYBODY, anywhere. And the shipping charges, or non-charges are the same, whether you buy them from Ace or online. Same price. So if there is no difference, Ace has supported us.
BUt I find the "system" that makes Festool so neat is not just the ergonomics (Fein is great no question), but the "modularity" If you don't plan on buying any other Festool machines, you lose a lot of what it offers. The ability to stack everything and wheel it wherever you want to (aside from the great tools). So if you can get the Fein cheaper, and plan on no other Festools, go with the Fein. But unlike Robert, I can't use my shop vac with my jointer or planer.
