Ernie Conover
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
ERNIE
CONOVER is perhaps the most well known and respected
lathe artist in the world. The author of many woodworking
books and contributor to every major magazine published,
he also runs a woodworking school. He is also the
inventor of the Conover lathe, which is generally
considered the state of the art for this type of tool.

Mario Rodriguez
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
MARIO
RODRIGUEZ is among the most distinguished restoration
cabinetmakers in the United States. He was the subject
of a feature article in the October 30, 1997 Home
Section of the New York Times. He currently teaches
restoration techniques at the Fashion Institute of
Technology in New York City, and runs his own studio
in New Jersey. |

Strother Purdy
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
STROTHER
PURDY taught woodworking at SUNY Purchase, and was
an assistant editor at Fine Woodworking magazine.
Mr. Purdy has edited numerous books on woodworking,
and is also the owner of Purdy’s Fine Furniture in
Bridgewater, CT, specializing in custom cabinetry.
He was featured in an article in The New York Times
November 26, 2000 Weekend Section. |

Aimé Fraser
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
Aimé Fraser has been a boatbuilder for over 25 years. She apprenticed at the Daybreak Boatshop in
Norwalk, Connecticut, studied boatbuilding in New Zealand, and designed the interiors of many yachts
for private clients. She has served as a technical advisor to many books on woodworking, and has completed
her own book for Taunton Press, scheduled to be released in 2003.

Alan
Russo
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
Alan Russo is a member of Long Island Woodturners Club, and has been turning for approximately six years. Alan is a Naturalist by trade, and likes the idea of using unwanted wood that people are throwing away to create something beautiful and useful, giving the tree a second life.
Alan has done woodturning demonstrations for Long Island Woodturners Club, Long Island Woodworkers Club and has demonstrated at the Long Island Woodworking Show since its inception. Alan enjoys sharing his skills with anyone who has an interest in woodturning.

Jim Diamond
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
Jim Diamond is a Past President and a member of the Long Island Woodturners Club. He has been turning for the past 13 years and a cabinetmaker for twenty-five years. Jim has given many demonstrations at the Woodturners Club. He is also a past demonstrator at the Woodworking Show. Jim is a great teacher and has a very fine eye for Woodturning design. He is well known for his use of woodburning and other innovative designs and techniques. He makes and customizes many of the tools he uses.

Barry Gross
ABOUT THE SPEAKER . . .
Barry Gross is an experienced woodworker/artisan with over 30 years of diverse experience working I several different and exotic media using both the scroll saw and a lathe. Barry is a member of various woodworking associations and is actively involved with enhancing the art of scroll sawing through teaching at different woodworking locations. He has published over forty articles in various woodworking magazines and recently has published two books, one on Scroll Sawing and the other Pen Turning.
Barry has won several awards for his unique designs and was commissioned the New York Aquarium to create a fish sculpture for their Alien Sting Exhibit. In addition, Dupont Corporation has purchased some of the pieces displayed on his website, and others have been offered in various Art Galleries such as Island Earth Gallery, Langman Galleries and Wylands Sea Life Gallery in New York. In addition to the Gallery Work, he was commissioned to create a few custom pens and Corian Sushi trays for Greg Norman the golfer.
